HISTORY - FROM POLE SURVEYING TO SPACE TECHNOLOGY

The first data on recording and measuring land in Serbia date back to the period of the Serbian medieval state, and 1837 is considered to be the year of the beginning of the development of professional geodetic activity, when the Serbian prince Miloš Obrenović, raised the issue land surveying and classification at the Spasovdan National Assembly on May 28th, 1837 in Kragujevac. On that occasion, the prince ordered that the land should be measured with a pole in order to more correctly establish the tribute paid by the peasants. The first survey was carried out in 1837 in the area of Savamala due to the relocation of the court of Prince Miloš from Kragujevac.

The issue of cadastral surveying and the establishment of the Cadastre in Serbia was initiated by Milan Andonović, who founded the Land Surveying School, where a large number of modernly trained land surveyors were schooled during its brief existence (1890-1895).

The present Republic Geodetic Authority was established in 1992, when the Law on State Survey and Cadastre and Property Rights Registration ("Official Gazette of RS", No. 83/92, which entered into force on November 20th, 1992) was adopted. The Republic Geodetic Authority, as the legal successor of the Republic Geodetic Administration, took over all municipal geodetic administrations, the geodetic administration of the city of Belgrade and the provincial geodetic administrations.

By introducing modern technical and technological solutions and innovation in the field of geospatial information management and the Real Estate Cadastre, the Republic Geodetic Authority has become a leader in the digital transformation of society and the state.

Today, the Republic Geodetic Authority uses the latest technology satellite imagery, high resolution, precision and quality, thanks to which Serbia has the most modern information system that improves the transparency of the work of state institutions.

The first satellite imagery was acquired in 2015, when the improvement and introduction of orderly operation in spatial and urban planning and the fiscal system began. From that moment, the new history of the Republic Geodetic Authority begins, which today, thanks to the implemented reform and digitization of the Cadastre, continuous innovative solutions of its services, is a role model and example of the cadastral institutions work around the world.
